You’ve seen them. Those little 5 foot stands that twirl and give you a few choices of reading glasses. They usually have a small mirror so that you can try them on and see how they look. Many have a chart so that once you determine what strength you need, you can then go directly to the style you like in that strength.
But it seems you have to visit a lot of little shops and drugstores, etc. to have many choices. With all the folks, at the very least, needing reading glasses, wouldn’t it be great to have a little shop or large kiosk areas that offer a wonderful variety of sizes, styles and strengths!!!
They used to have places like that for sunglasses. Well, maybe it’s time for reading glasses as well. I always feel like they are an afterthought, an opportunity for the store owner to make a few bucks. Similar to placing candy and magazines next to the check-out counter. It would be great if someone actually took this idea as a real business concept. There are plenty of online shops with lots of choices, but it’s not nearly as much fun as trying them on. Since they’re usually priced much more reasonably than prescription glasses, having the opportunity to try them on would probably encourage someone to buy more than one pair!
I’m not advocating ignoring having your eyes checked by a licensed optometrist. But I know a huge number of people that just need a great pair of reading glasses. How do I know? Because they often borrow mine to read the menu!
Of course, if you’ve not noticed, I am a a gray-haired, eyeglass wearing woman. So, you’ll find a number of these businesses things that I think we need or what I would like! But there will plenty of other ideas as I add to my 101 Business Ideas category.

PS While doing a little research I found this AMAZING concept… of course, they’re not cheap, but I’d give ‘em a try if I had the $$$s. Styling is also limited due to the technology used in the lens. VERY interesting. These glasses were used by astronauts!
Is anyone adding dark lighting to accent the face to create a more pleasing ‘gray.’ Do I have to totally cover my gray? Are there other choices? Could these choices be done at home? Do I have to spend upwards of $50 every month to get a nice effect?
Several years ago I wanted to open a hat shoppe. In my teens, I loved visiting hat departments, but they seemed to always be located right next to the escalator in a huge department store. Being a bit shy at trying on hats where others could see me, I consequently didn’t try very many. Over the years (decades), I’ve found myself drawn to hats over and over. One day I did some thinkin’ on what would make a GREAT hat shoppe. Here’s my basic plan:
